Sun-mi Hwang is a South Korean author known for her bestselling novels, including The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly and The Dog Who Dared to Dream. She was born on September 22, 1963, in Jeonju, South Korea, and grew up on a farm in the countryside. She studied Korean literature at Seoul National University and later earned a master's degree in creative writing from the University of Iowa. Hwang worked as a teacher and journalist before turning to writing full-time. Her novels explore themes such as identity, freedom, and the human-animal connection. The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly has been translated into over 30 languages and adapted into an animated film. Hwang has won several awards for her work, including the Children's Literature Award from the Korean Publishers Association.
